ENJOY THE LEAP DAY

Today is the leap day and it will be nice to share the informations about this rare day.I grab this great chance to wish those birthday babies who celebrates today.

Leap day, also known as leap year day, is an extra day added to the month of February in a leap year. February 29 is the 60th day of a leap year in the Gregorian calendar. It occurs every four years in years evenly divisible by four except for centenary years not divisible by 400.A leap day is more likely to occur on Mondays or Wednesdays rather than other days because the Gregorian calendar repeats itself every 400 years. Therefore February 29 can occur 15 times on a Monday or Wednesday, 14 times on a Friday or Saturday and 13 times on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday.

History of Leap Day:
In ancient Rome, leap day was on February 24 due to February being the last month of the calendar. The original Roman calendar added an extra month every few years to maintain the correct seasonal changes. The Julian calendar was implemented in 45 BCE, resulting in a leap day being added to the end of February every four years. In 1582 Pope Gregory XIII refined the Julian calendar with a new rule that a century year is not a leap year unless it is evenly divisible by 400. The introduction of the Gregorian calendar was observed in some countries including Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. The conversion took longer for other countries such as Great Britain (1752) and Lithuania (1915).

Traditions:
A tradition was introduced many centuries ago to allow women to propose to men during a leap year. This privilege of proposing was restricted to leap day in some areas. Leap day was sometimes known as “Bachelors’ Day”. A man was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money, if he refused a marriage offer from a woman. The tradition’s origin stemmed from an old Irish tale referring to St Bridget striking a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men every four years. This old custom was probably made to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how the leap day balances the calendar. It was also considered to be unlucky for someone to be born on a leap day in Scotland and for couples to marry on a leap year, including on a leap day, in Greece.

SUV-HISTORY AND ITS FEATURES

Sports Utility Vehicle(SUV) is a type of passenger vehicle which combines the loading and passenger-carrying capacity of a large station wagon or minivan with features designed for off-road driving. In more recent years, the term also grown to encompass vehicles with smaller size and style that are marketed as sport utility vehicles, but which do not actually incorporate substantial off-road features. A new category, the crossover SUV uses car components for lighter weight and better economy.
SUVs were traditionally derived from light struck platforms but have developed to have the general shape of a station wagon. SUVs are typically taller, with a roughly square cross section. In contrast ,station wagons are typically wider than they are tall, and minivans are taller than they are wide. Typical to a light struck platform, SUVs have higher seating than a station wagon and a suspension designed for giving ground clearance for off-road driving. In higher-end models, all four wheels can provide motion, unlike the majority of automobiles in which only the front or rear wheels provide drive. The design also allows for a large engine compartment, and many SUVs have large V-6 or V-8 engines. In countries where fuel is more expensive, buyers often opt for diesel engines, which have better fuel efficiency. Descended from commercial and military vehicles such as the Jeep and Land Rover, they have been popular for many years with rural buyers due to their off-road abilities. However ,in the last 25 years, and even more in the last decade, they have become popular with urban buyers. Consequently, more modern SUVs often come laden with luxury features and some crossover SUVs, such as the BMW X5,the Acura MDX, and the Toyota RAV4,have adapted lower ride heights and car chassis to better reflect their typical use. Some private SUV owners do indeed take their vehicles off the road to explore places otherwise unreachable by vehicle or for the sheer enjoyment of the driving. In Australia, China, Europe, South Africa and the U.S at least, many SUV clubs have been for this purpose.
Modified SUVs also take part in races, most famously in the Paris-Dakar Rally, and the Australian safari SUVs were immensely popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s.In the mid 2000s,their popularity has waned considerably. SUVs became popular in US for a variety of reasons. Owners pointed to their large, comfortable cabins, safety and the recreational possibilties of the vehicle. Additionally, most large SUVs have far greater towing capacities than conventional cars, and in the case of trailerable boats have superior abilities to launch and retrieve those boats from slippery boat ramps. The most common reason for SUV popularity cited by owners was once the incorrect assertion that they confer a major advantage in collision with regular cars. Infact, SUV drivers were more likely to perish in an accident with a smaller car than is the driver of the other vehicle. One reason for this was that SUVs are more than 16 times more likely to ‘roll over’ in an accident, and this has become more publicized in recent years. Therefore, most SUVs have electronics to prevent roll over.

EXISTENCE OF ANOTHER SOLAR SYSTEM?

The discovery of a Jupiter-like planet and another about the size of Saturn has astronomers suggesting that solar systems like our own may be common.
The newfound worlds both appear to be gaseous and are about 80 percent the sizes of Jupiter and Saturn, the astronomers said today. They orbit a star that is about half the size of our sun and is dimmer and much cooler.
"This is the first discovery of a multi-planet system that could be analogous to our solar system," said research team member Alison Crocker.

Several similarities:
The newfound solar system, about 5,000 light-years away, is more compact than our own. The larger planet's orbit is 2.3 times as far from its host star as the Earth is from the sun. Jupiter is 5.2 times farther from the sun than Earth.
But there are several interesting similarities:
— The ratio between the masses of the two worlds is about 3:1, similar to the Jupiter/Saturn ratio.
— The smaller planet is about twice as far from its star as the larger one, just as Saturn is roughly twice as far away from the sun as Jupiter.
— The two worlds orbit their star in 5 and 14 years, similar to the 2:5 orbit ratio of Jupiter and Saturn.
The planets were found using a technique called GRAVITATIONAL LENSING, in which light from the faraway planets is bent and magnified by the gravity of a foreground object, in this case another star. The technique has been used to find three other Jupiter-mass planets, each around different stars, in the past.

LOVE ALL

Have you ever questioned yourself - why 0-0 is called "love all" in tennis??? You may think tennis is the most loved game or tennis sending message to love everyone. But it is nothing to relate with "LOVE".
This is derived from the country from where the game started.Love in tennis is the corruption of the french word "l'eouf" which means the egg which has the shape of zero.
Tennis is the ancestor of all racket games started to play in the 14th century and this "love all" scoring format is also used in badmiton, volley ball, table tennis....

Does your eyes strain after hours of work in PC???

Does your eyes strain after hours of work in your computer???.Then you may suffer from Computer VisionSyndrome.
Computer Vision Syndrome is a complex of eye and vision during and related to computer use.It appears to be growing rapidly. Some studies estimate that 90 percent of the 70 million US workers using computers formore than three hours per day experience CVS in some form.
Typical symptoms of CVS are eye-strain,headache,slow focussing, tired and burning eyes, neck and shoulder pain and blurred vision at distance.Computer users have a reduced eye-blinking rate while using computers. So they are at a major risk of developing transient or short-term dry eyes.Over a period of time, excessive computer use can have cumulative negative effects on the user, including the worsening of farsightedness,nearsightedness,astigmatism,eye-focussing and poor eye coordination.
Some prescribtions for CVS are
*Increase your blink rate.
*Gaze away from the monitor every 15 minutes.
*Use a large(but not over 48cm),high quality monitor or increase the font size. The comfortable refresh rate is70Hz.
*Improve posture.
*Improve chair.Lower lumbar support which supports your hips will cut down the strain by about half.

"Meet the performance level" says TCS

Within days of cutting salaries of its employees,India's leading software exporter TCS has shown exit doors to 500 employees after their performance was found not upto the mark.
TCS, which has employees over 100,000 workers, has said it would cut 1.5 per cent from employees' salaries in the fourth quarter, as it fell short of financial targets following a sharp rise in the value of rupee against dollar and the slowdown in the US economy.
"Employees with experience of two years and above across the company who were unable to meet the performance requirements of our company are asked to look for other jobs commensurate with their abilities," TCS spokesperson Pradipta Bagchi .
The company had said that the salary cut would be in the variable component, which accounts for 30 per cent of the total pay of the employee.
TCS' decision comes after global IT major IBM getting rid of a large number of its entry-level trainee programmers across major offices in the country on the grounds of performance.
