Jericho is considered to be the oldest city in the world.Its history has been tracked back to 11,000 years.It has been a colony in 10,000 B.C and evidences suggests that the city was abondoned several times and later expanded and rebuilt several times.
Jericho is a green oasis in the Jordan valley which lies 7 km west of the river Jordan,10 km north of the Dead sea and 30 km east of Jerusalem.There are a lot of important historical places to visit like River Jordan where Jesus Christ was baptized,Mount of Temptation,Hisham palace,Sycamore tree,Monastery of Saint George,Hasmoneans palace,Kumran cave and lot more.
Origin of the name"Jericho" is Semitic,Canaanites meant it as"The Moon".In Syriac the name meant "Scent and odour".Jericho is called "The city of palm" and "The Garden of God".
